Weather for Southern CT: Light snow forecast for Super Bowl Sunday

SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT – Southern Connecticut may see snow starting early Sunday morning, which could lead to light accumulations, according to the latest updates from the National Weather Service.

The snow chance for southern Connecticut is currently about 50%, and the weather service said there will be a sharp disconnect on who sees snow and who doesn’t. The closer you are to the coast, the more likely you are to see a light accumulation of snow, the weather service said.

Northern parts of Connecticut only have a 20% chance of snow Sunday. The weather service said most areas should see about an inch of snow on Sunday, and there is potential for a maximum of 2 to 3 inches for the region. Again, the big question is where the cutoff line for precipitation will be.

It’s also an odd forecast in that temperatures on Saturday soar into the mid-50s and then drop rapidly, and we’re below freezing on Sunday and Monday and just barely above freezing on Tuesday. Better and warmer weather returns Wednesday of next week.

“There was a time when some model ensemble members hinted at a more robust winter storm for the region, but that scenario seems highly unlikely at this time. There is a 30-50% chance of a light snow axis occurring. Spreading from the SW after midnight Saturday through Sunday morning This appears to be a narrow band of snow with the potential of up to an inch across the region, mostly on the coast.

One model shows there may be no snow, the weather service said, while another computer model shows the area could see 2 to 3 inches of snow.

“…Either way, this would be a light snowfall event, with the potential upper end being an advisory level event (2 to 3 inches). Snow is expected to taper off from west is in the afternoon until early evening.”
